Alkalising Foods

There is a lot of support for the Alkaline Diet or Alkaline Ash Diet as it is believed to prevent certain diseases such as cancer. Whatever you eat is converted into energy. Certain foods are believed to either leave an alkalising, neutral or acidic ash.

The following have been linked to a more acidic diet:

  • Musculoskeletal aches and pains

  • Fatigue

  • Constipation

  • Poor digestion

  • Frequent infections

  • Indigestion

  • Gout

What is pH

pH is a “potential of hydrogen". The pH scale goes from 0 – 14.

  • Above 7 is alkaline,

  • Below 7 is acidic,

  • 7 is neutral.

The body’s pH varies. Your blood’s pH stays within the range of 7.35 – 7.45 (slightly alkaline). Whereas the stomach needs to be acidic to be able to break down food. Though your urine’s pH varies from acid to alkaline, depending on the need to balance the internal environment (3).

Foods

So which foods are alkaline and which are acidic You won’t be surprised to learn that qlkaline forming foods include more vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds and herbal teas.

Whereas acid-forming foods include most grains, meats, dairy products, fast foods and processed foods.

So simply by increasing your consumption of alkaline-forming foods and reducing your intake of acid-forming foods, you will be on the right path to a healthier, more alkaline you.
