Feeling tired, foggy or constantly battling cravings. It might be the food you are putting on your plate.
Using simple functional nutrition principles, you can support your metabolism, balance blood sugar and feel more energised.
Here's a simple way to build your plate.
Protein first: include foods like chicken, salmon, eggs or legumes to keep blood sugar balanced and support your metabolism.
Lots of vegetables: fill at least half your plate with non-starchy vegetables. I personally love broccoli/broccolini, Bok choy, carrots, zucchinis and mushrooms. But choose what you love.
Healthy fats: avocado, nuts and seeds, plus olive oil/coconut oil help you feel satisfied and support hormone balance.
Smart carbs: include wholegrains such as oats, brown rice, quinoa, spelt pasta. Did you know whole grain oats can help lower cholesterol.
Enjoy your food
Eat mindfully and give your digestive system time to work.
Sit down and eat in a relaxed manner away from work.
Chew your food. Digestion starts with your first chew.
Snacking in between meals can stop digestion as your body is trying to break down new foods.
Tune into hunger and fullness cues.
Homemade Macadamia Granola Recipe - this will keep you feeling full till lunch
1 cup natural macadamias (roughly chopped)
11/2 cups wholegrain oats
1/2 cup buckwheat kernels
3 tbs hemp seeds
2 tsps. ground cinnamon
2-3 tbs pure maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbs extra virgin coconut oil
Preheat the oven to 160 degrees fan forced.
Line a baking tray with baking paper.
Place all the dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl and combine well.
Mix the coconut oil, maple syrup and vanilla extract in another smaller bowl. Mix well and then add to dry ingredients and mix well.
Please note: the coconut oil will need to be in a liquid form.
Add mix to baking tray and cook for about 20 minutes until lightly browned.
Allow to cool and store in an air-tight container.
I love topping the granola with Greek yoghurt (or your preference) and blueberries.
Enjoy!
Have a great day
Jules
