I love the idea of a pre-tox before your next holiday or the festive season. So many people focus on doing a detox after Christmas. However, this can create more stress on the body, especially if you have overindulged.
A pre-tox prepares the body by building resilience and improving the detoxification pathways.
I would aim for a 2-week pre-tox to feel your best.
Drink lots of water
Eliminate alcohol, soft drinks (even no sugar) and store-bought juices.
Enjoy mineral water with freshly squeezed lime or lemon instead of a glass of wine.
If you find it hard to ditch the coffee, just have one per day.
Include good quality protein such as lean chicken, eggs, fish, beans and legumes at each meal.
Avoid red meat, deli meats and sausages.
Include healthy fats such as avocado, nuts and seeds, wild salmon, and olive oil.
Increase fibre from fresh vegetables and whole fruits. Aim for 2-3 handfuls of vegetables or salads per meal. 1-2 whole fruits per day. Berries are excellent as they are high in antioxidants.
Ditch the fast foods, take aways, processed, packaged foods and sugar.
Eat as close to Nature as possible, fresh and in season.
Aim for 8 hours of sleep per night.
Move your body daily. Walking is a fantastic option.
Stress reduction techniques such as meditation, mindful breathing and yoga.
Dry skin brushing is great for the lymphatic system.
Be kind to yourself.
A day on a plate.
Breakfast
Scrambled eggs with vegetables.
Protein berry smoothie, good quality protein powder, almond milk, 1/2 cup berries and chia seeds.
Lunch:
Large mixed salad with a palm-sized piece of protein and homemade salad dressing (olive oil and freshly squeezed lemon juice).
Dinner:
Stir fry with your choice of protein on cauliflower rice.
Oven-baked salmon with steamed vegetables.
Chicken skewers with Greek Salad.
